The Cleveland Indians double up on the Mariners

Sunday the Seattle Mariners left the confines of Safeco field after beating the Oakland Athletics. The had Monday off as they traveled to New York. Today, they hope that after they day off they can continue their winning ways against the Yankees. With Felix Hernandez taking the mound the chances are good that they will get their win. The Yankees counter with C. C. Sabathia.

Review: dead man falling by Desmond Cory

Dead man falling by Desmond Cory is a gripping spy thriller that will capture your imagination all the way to the end. As you read along you will fill as though you are part of the story as you travel across Europe with Johnny Fedora and his lovely companion Marie Andree while track down a stash of diamonds. You will find yourself going through all of the same experiences that Johnny and Marie go through as travel on the train. Your mind will be reeling as you try and figure out the true identity of the former Nazi that is also after the diamonds to fund the rebuilding of the post-war Nazi party.

You will find the characters so well developed that you will feel that you know them. There is the prim and proper Sebastian Trout,Johann Biel the banker with a passion for mountain climbing, Kurt & Eva Mann with their Martin and the much in love honeymoon couple of Paul & Marie-Andree Vidal. The more you read you will wonder if any of these people whom they say they are.

Mr. Cory does a great job of adding details to the story that actually will conjure up visions of the places the the main character travel. You can picture yourself accompanying Johnny Fedora and Marie Andree as they enter the inn in the little Austrian village of Oberneasl. The richness of detail is not just limited to the scenery as you will also be able to picture the characters as though they were standing right in front of you.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone that is a fan of spy novels. If they love characters such as Len Dieghten's Bernard Samson or Ian Flemming's James Bond you will enjoy this book.

Going for a sweep of the Blue Jays the Seattle Mariners send Joe Saunders to the mound. Saunders has had an up and down season so far which doesn't fill the Mariners faithful with much confidence. Hasashi Iwakuma takes game two in Toronto

After winning yesterday in Toronto the Seattle Mariners look to keep the winning streak alive. It is up to the Mariners number 2 pitcher Hasashi Iwakuma to keep the Blue Jays from running the bases. Standing in Iwakuma's way is a familiar face in former Mariner and last years Cy Young award winner R. A. Dickey. It promise to be another pitching duel as the strike throwing Iwakuma goes up against the knuckle ball pitcher.

The top of the first starts out with Michael Saunders getting a leadoff home run. Kyle Seager comes up next and hit a line drive for an out. Kendrys Morales steps up to the plate but hits a ground ball back to the pitcher for out 2. Michael Morse is up next and hits a ground ball to short to end the top of the first. The Blue Jays half of the inning starts out on a bad note as Iwakuma walks the first batter. That is followed up by single. Then Iwakuma gets the next batter to fly out. The fourth batter singles to load the bases. With the sacks full Iwakuma stays calm as he strikes out the next two batters to end the inning.

The Seattle Mariners win the game 8-1 and take the series as they winning the first two of three. Tomorrow they have a chance for a sweep in Toronto.

After a 5-2 home-stand the Seattle Mariners are in hopes of keeping their winning ways going as they travel north of the border to take on the Toronto Bluejays. They have the right man taking the mound as Felix Hernandez gets set to take on the pitching duties. The Bluejays counter with their ace pitcher Ricky Romero giving us what is set to be a duel between the two pitchers.

The first inning starts with the Mariners at bat. Michael Saunders is up first and hits a ground ball to second. Kyle Seager gets a single on a ball hit in center field. Kendrys Morales hits a ground ball to the short stop as the Bluejays turn a double play to end the top of the inning. In the Bluejays half of the inning Felix gets three straight ground balls to make quick work of the Toronto team.

In the 2^nd inning Michael Morse and Jason Bay are both strike out victims giving the Mariners two quick outs. Justin Smoak steps in and hits a fly ball to center for the third out. In the bottom of the 2^nd inning Felix again gets the Bluejays in order.

The 3^rd inning starts off with Dustin Ackly stepping into the batter's box and hits a ground ball to second. Jesus Montero is next up and hits a ground ball to the short stop. Brendan Ryan takes his turn and strikes out to end the top of the inning. In the Bluejays half of the inning Felix strikes out the first two batters. He then gives up a single giving the Bluejays their first base runner. Kawasaki then stole second to give the Bluejays a man in scoring position. Felix strikes out the next batter to erase any threat the Toronto team must have planned for the inning.

In the bottom of the inning Felix gets two strike outs with a ground ball sandwiched in the middle as the Bluejays going in order.

In the top of the 6^th Michael Morse starts things off with a strike out. Jason Bay then hits a home run to extend the lead to 4-0. Justin Smoak and Dustin Ackly both single. With two on and one out Jesus Montero flies out to center. Brendan Ryan hits into a fielder's choice. In the bottom of the inning Felix gets the first two batters to ground out. The next batter hits a ball to Brendan Ryan. It looks like another 1-2-3 inning but Brendan Ryan bobbles the ball for his third error. The next batter ground out to end the 6^th.

In the top of the 9ththe Mariners go in order as Dustin Ackly, Jesus Montero and Brendan Ryan all fly out. In the bottom of the inning Tom Wilhelmsen replaces Felix Hernandez. Mr. Wilhelmsen gets two quick out before giving up a walk. The next batter strikes out giving the Mariner a 4-0 win to start off their road trip.
