Home, sweet home

In their second road trip of the season the Seattle Mariners went just 1 and 5 while being out scored 37-15. That one win came against the Houston Astros where Felix Hernandez recorded his 100th win on a 7-1 victory over their American league west foe. After that disastrous it was great to be back in the confines of Safeco field.

At approximately 7:10 this evening Rookie picture Brandon Maurer took to the pitching mound looking for his second win of the season. He pitched 6 strong innings before running into some trouble in the 7th where he hit a batter. Maurer was lifted with one out in the 7th and 2 runners on base. Carter Capps came in and quickly was able to induce a double play to end the inning. Carter Capps pitched the 8th where he managed to get the batters out in order. Then Tom Wilhelmsen came in for the 9th making quick work of the Angels giving Brandon Maurer his 2nd win.

On the offensive side for the Seattle Mariners the game got off to a good start as Endy Chavez hit a single to lead off the game. Kyle Seager flew out and Kendrys Morales hit into a double play. Thus ending such a promising starting to the 1st inning.

The 2nd inning went 1-2-3 as Justin Smoak struck out before both Dustin Ackly and Kelly Shoppik hit fly ball outs. It was look as though the struggles were going to continue for the Mariners.

The 3rds inning saw the third longest home run ever to be hit during a regular season game at Safeco field as Carlos Peguero hit a 451 foot blast to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. The good fortune in the 3rd continued as Jason Bay hit a single. Robert Andino hit a fly ball out before Endy Chavez put the Mariners back on track with a single. Kyle Seager came through with a single to score Jason Bay. Bad luck continues for Kendrys Morales as he hits into another inning ending double play but not before the Mariners take a 2-0 lead.

The next three innings see the Seattle Mariners go in order despite a single in the 6th inning. With Brandon Maurer pitching a good game it stays 2-0 Mariners.

The 7th inning starts off seeing Justin Smoak get work his way on with a walk. Dustin Ackly hits a single giving fans hope for more runs. Kelly Shoppik hits a sacrifice moving the runners to 2nd and 3rd. Carlos Peguero is then sent down to 1st on an intentional walk. Jason Bay hits a single to bring in 2 runs before Robert Andino hits into an inning ending double play. The 7th ends with the Mariners leading 4-0.

The 8th starts with Endy Chavez once again getting a single. Kyle Seager comes through one more time as he belts a 2-run home run. Kendrys Morales gets his first single but it is a futile effort as Dustin Ackly hits into a double play. Kelly Shoppik strikes out to end the inning but not before the Mariners take a 6-0 lead.

Tom Wilhelmsen pitches the top of the 9th getting the Angels out in order to hand the Seattle Mariners a victory in their return home.
