The Seattle Mariners had a great June
seeing them build on their lead for the second wild card and closing
in on the Los Angeles Angels. July though has been a different story
seeing them struggle in the final few games going into the all-start
break and the 6 games after the break. It has made us all wonder just
how far they will slip before GM Jack Zduriencik
made a deal to bring some pop to a line that has been struggling to
get that clutch hit with runners on base.
Today,
he finally made a move by bring back our top RBI producer from last
year. Slitting time between first base & DH, for the Mariners,
Kendrys Morales hit a respectable 277 with 23 homeruns and 80 RBIs.
Mr. Morales is also switch-hitter giving the Mariners the much
needed right-handed batter that we have been searching for this
season.
The
trade with the Minnesota Twins did cost us relief pitcher Stephen
Pryor. Mr. Pryor did show some promise with the Mariners since he
first arrived on the scene in 2012 with an ERA of under 3 in 34 games
and 32 innings. Pryor has been rehabbing from surgery from an injury
early on last season and has only made one appearance this year
before being sent back to triple-A Tacoma. With the best bullpin in
baseball it made Pryor expendable.
With
the re-acquisition of Kendrys Morales it could make Justin Smoak,
Logan Morrison of Corey Hart expendable. All three of those players
have been struggling as of late batting 208, 211 and 212
respectfully. In the case of both Smoak and Morrison they have been
above average in the field and have had some decent batting streaks
With Hart time in the outfield has been limited with knee trouble but
he did show some good pop as DH earlier this season.
