Number 51 for the Mariner

When Ichiro hit the first pitch of the game for a home run, Franklin Gutierrez hits a single, Dustin Ackerly a double, Mike Carps gets a hit for 2 RBIs and Casper Weeks a two-run home run all in the first inning. It looked as though the game was going to be an easy win for the Seattle Mariners tonight. We should know better though that the way this season has gone this probably wouldn't hold up.

The second inning started off good with Felix on the mound the Red Sox went quick. Then in the bottom half of the inning Jack Wilson had a hit. It was looking as though they would pick up where they left off in the first but it just wasn't to be with Ichiro hitting into a rare double play and then Gutierrez ending the inning.

The next few innings went fairly uneventful as neither side scored. The fourth inning though did have one scary moment when Mariner catcher Josh Bard was involved in a collision at home and knocked onto his back when he was took both and elbow and knee shots. He was dazed but was able to somehow hang on to the ball for the out.

The sixth inning didn't go well at all for Felix and after giving up two 2-run homers it was looking bleak. He managed to get out of the inning with a slim one run lead so there was still hope. The offensive had one hit to start off there half of the inning but the next three batters fell flat.

Jamie Wright came in for the 8th with the Mariners still hold on to their slim lead and did a great job. The offensive went 1-2-3 in the bottom half of the inning and once again it was up to Brandon League to hold a one run lead.

In the back of our minds we always wonder if League will start another little slide but he didn't. He came in and made quick work of the Red Sox for his 28 save and showed another team why he was selected to be an all-start.
